Wollongong's Greater Union cinemas were packed to the gills on the weekend with kids enjoying a rare treat - going to the movies.

The Wollongong North, Fairy Meadow Rotary Club undertook a telemarketing campaign to raise money to cover movie tickets and refreshments for 1000 disadvantaged children.

``The kids loved Toy Story 2 and Mr Gadget," organiser Wylie Pearson said.

``It was a really fun day where they could relax with friends, eat some popcorn and enjoy a good show," he added.

Remaining funds were given to a number of charities such as Camp Quality, Life Education and the Wollongong and Bulli hospital emergency wards.

The project was split over two Saturdays with a number of club members volunteering their time to supervise.
